With the telc German B1 exam, you can officially certify your German language skills. The certificate is internationally recognized and is often required for naturalization, vocational training, university admission, or professional applications. The exam is designed for anyone who can already communicate confidently in everyday situations in German and would like to officially confirm their language level.
At B1 level, you are increasingly able to express yourself independently in everyday life and hold simple conversations confidently. You can talk about familiar topics such as work, family, leisure, and travel, express and explain your opinions, and describe experiences and events. You are also able to formulate plans and goals, participate in simple discussions, and understand connected texts. In everyday situations while traveling or at work, you can already manage well. Mistakes are completely normal – what matters most is that you can communicate clearly and effectively.
The telc German B1 certificate is recognized by many authorities, employers, and educational institutions and plays an important role in various areas of life. It is often required for German citizenship applications, access to vocational training, or professional qualifications. It may also be necessary for job applications or certain residence permits. Since telc is internationally established, the certificate is recognized not only in Germany but also abroad.

At the end of the course, you will complete a realistic exam simulation.
In addition, when you book the telc B1 exam, you automatically receive a free self-study preparation course that helps you become familiar with the exam format. However, this does not replace a language course – it is designed as a supplementary preparation tool.
The telc B1 exam consists of a written and an oral section.
In the written part, your skills in the following areas are tested:
You will have approximately 150 minutes in total.
A key focus is your ability to understand information on different levels – globally, in detail, and selectively – and to apply suitable language structures confidently.
The oral exam usually takes place on the same day.
Before the exam begins, you will receive around 20 minutes of preparation time to familiarize yourself with the tasks and develop your ideas.
Afterward, you will complete conversations together with another exam participant on various topics. This includes introducing yourself, answering questions, discussing a topic, and planning a situation together.
The main focus is on how confidently and spontaneously you can express yourself in German.
As soon as your result arrives at the exam center, you will automatically receive a scan by email. Please note that evaluation by telc may take several weeks.
